My Little Pony cupcakes

Classic Vanilla Cupcakes coordinated with the cake.  The recipe is from the new Hummingbird Bakery cookbook.

My Little Pony Cake

This cake was a pure pleasure as it was a trip back to "my" little pony days.
I may even still have one..okay I do :)

3- 8" vanilla and chocolate cakes layered between Chocolate and chocolate chip Butter cream icing.  Covered in yummy marshmallow fondant.  This cake was suppose to be simple however the ponies were not.
They were a great challenge to make to scale and likeness each taking at least 2 1/2 hours.

I find it amazingly helpful to have a 3D model.
I got to sit down with the b-day girl and dig for some more info like her fav. pony, colours, the dream castle.  So much fun!
Ruby's so sweet she even let me use Rarity to "help me make a really nice cake".

Hand drawn Stint for Fondant name.

Her name being four letters ending in a "y" worked out perfect as it resembles the "My Little Pony" Logo so closely.  It was just begging to be designed.

Let dry 72 hours and then positioned it between the two towers.

Every castle needs a pink gate.
I used a wood grained impression mat for this.

Fondant Rainbow Dash Pony.

Fondant Rarity Pony.

The birthday girl's favorite...Pinkie Pie Pony.

Lucky little girl even gets a Pinkie Pie personalized towel!!
Happy Birthday Ruby, you're a sweet heart.

Inukshuk cupcakes

Chocolate Hazelnut cupcakes with Hazelnut Butter Cream icing.
Coconut Vanilla cupcakes with hint of lime cream cheese icing.
Both decorated with mini fondant Inukshuks.

Inukshuk cake

An edible trip to Churchill Manitoba for a 60th birthday celebration.
After the research and making of this cake I was left wanting to visit the town to see some of the amazing sites.

Front view
The top tier is a 8" vanilla cake with chocolate chip butter cream icing.
The bottom 12" tier is a chocolate cake with raspberries and vanilla butter cream icing.

Back view.
Getting the grass to overlap the rock nicely.
The biggest challenge of this cake was trying to make "nice" fondant evergreen trees.
I loved how they turned out in the end but it took a lot of patience.  I came up with this method on my own after not loving what ideas were out there for fondant trees.
I'll have to make my own YouTube video :)
My fondant Ashuanipi River.
I mixed a pure blue and then accented with more blue for the streaks.
One of my favorite things.  My Norwex netted cloth.  It grabs the sticky fondant  and leaves me doing very little scrubbing.  Makes 6 batches of fondant clean up not so scary.
Rice Krispies treats covered in fondant to resemble rocks for the inukshuk.

The Inukshuk assembled and airbrushed, supported with dowels.
Two American Bitten birds rest on the rocks, They are one of 275 species of birds found up in Churchill MB one of the hottest bird watching spots in Canada,

Two hand painted fondant Northern Pike fish jumping upstream.
Fondant wooden canoe at the bottom of the fall.
Fondant Polar bear which are often spotted in Churchill, MB.
Except not for the fondant part:)  Waiting to grab lunch..
Top view of the cake.
I added lots of yummy chocolate edible rocks...so good.

Lego Space Police Cake

The Lego Space Police are continually defending the galaxy against the Black Hole Gang.

Dirty icing! love this tip
6" vanilla cake with real vanilla Bean icing and a 10" Chocolate Chocolate chip with Vanilla Buttercream.

Brick stamp being applied to fondant.

Making the hole where Brick Daddy smashes out of.

Lego Space Police logo in fondant sprayed with gold.
The blue and gold are also airbrushed.
Hand drawn stint and the fondant version airbrushed for that graffiti look.

Airbushed the brick in brown, added the 6" cake and a bit of graffiti.  The graffiti is fondant cut from a hand made drawing and then airbrushed then out lined in black.  The hole in the "O" is actually the black hole gangs symbol - skull.
Watch for it on the characters belts and clothing.
My inspiration for the characters and top tier of cake.
This is a fold our from a Lego magazine.

All nine hand painted fondant characters dried and ready to go.

Lego Space Police Officer rounding the corner with his gun handy.

Slizer in the police line up trying to hide cash.

Kranxx and Squidman line up as well.

Brick Daddy on the break away as he's just broke threw the bank wall.

Skull Twins, Notice the chains, zippers and skull belts.
Lots of hand painted detailing here.
